I am so glad I switched to CU SoCal. I don't have to pay all of the fees my other bank charged me and CU SoCal helped me pay off my debt too!
Ryan, Member since 2016
CU SoCal's mobile app is really easy to use. It's nice to know we can quickly deposit checks, pay bills, and transfer money anytime.
Carol and Michael, Members since 1989
When we fell in love with our first home, CU SoCal's mortgage team emailed us our pre-approval letter while we were still viewing the property. We got approved for a great low rate, and the team worked hard to ensure everything closed on time.
Paul and Rebecca, Members since 2010
My experience with CU SoCal has been wonderful. CU SoCal saved me money on my home and car loans. Online Banking is convenient and allows me to pay my bills easily. But most of all, I love that the staff recognizes me and calls me by name.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Credit Unions

Credit unions, including the Credit Union of Southern California (CU SoCal), are not for profit organizations that are financial cooperatives owned by their Members. Typically the offer lower fees and better rates than banks, because their goal is to provide affordable credit and financial services to their Members, not create profit for shareholders.

Learn more about credit unions and how they work.
Banks operate for profit and anyone can conduct business with them. Credit unions, including CU SoCal, are not for profit and offer their services only to their Member-owners. While some credit unions serve certain groups (such as teachers, union workers or employees of a certain company), CU SoCal has broader criteria for new Members, which means anyone who lives, works, attends school or religious services in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside or San Bernardino County can apply for Membership. Here are some other ways that credit unions and banks are different.
Just like banks, credit unions are federally insured. Banks are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and credit unions are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), making them just as safe as traditional banks. The National Credit Union Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) is assigned to provide insurance of up to $250,000 per account to any credit union.
The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) is an independent agency created by the U.S. government to regulate and protect credit unions and their owners. Just like the FDIC, the NCUA insures up to $250,000 to all credit union members and provides protection in the event of a credit union failure. The NCUA is presided over by a three-member board, appointed by the United States President and confirmed by the Senate. The selected members belong to different political parties, and each member serves for a term of six years.
Yes, credit unions are not for profit organizations owned and controlled by the Members who use their services. Credit unions operate to promote the well-being of their Members. Profits made by credit unions are returned back to Members in the form of reduced fees, higher savings rates, and lower loan rates.
There are many advantages to banking at a credit union. Higher returns, better savings rates, low or no fee loans, low interest on loans, and a sense of community, are just a few of the benefits of Membership at CU SoCal. Our Members also have access to 30,000+ free ATMs through the CO-OP Network.
CU SoCal can help individuals build and fix their credit score. Because credit unions are not for profit, we can offer member benefits that can directly and indirectly build an individual’s credit score. For example, CU SoCal offers a Credit Builder Loan created to help Members raise their credit score.
For over 60 years CU SoCal, has been providing financial services, including many types of loans such as mortgages, Home Equity Loans, HELOCs, car loans, personal loans, investment property loans, credit builder loans, and other banking products, to those who live, work, worship, or attend school in Orange County, Los Angeles County, Riverside County, and San Bernardino County.
