Take Control of Your Credit Health

At Credit Union of Southern California (CU SoCal), we believe you should have instant and free access to one of the most important numbers in your financial life–your credit score.

With Credit Score and More, you can check your real time credit score and view your credit history instantly, through Online and Mobile Banking. There is no cost or credit card needed. This service is 100% free to all CU SoCal Members.

Simply click “Credit Score and More” in the menu of options, accept the disclosure, and you’ll see your real time credit score. Checking your credit score and credit report, no matter how often, does not negatively affect your score because it’s a “soft inquiry.” You’ll also have access to your full credit report. Credit Score and More Member FAQs

Q: What is Credit Score and More?

A. Credit Score and More is a comprehensive, free credit score program offered by CU SoCal that helps you stay on top of your credit. Get your latest credit score and report, an understanding of key factors that impact the score, and special loan offers that can help reduce your interest costs. With this program, you always know where you stand with your credit.

Credit Score and More monitors your credit report daily and informs you by email if there are any big changes detected such as: the opening of a new account, change in address or employment, or a reported delinquency or credit inquiry. Monitoring also helps you keep an eye out for identity theft.

Q. What is my credit report in the Credit Score and More program?

A. The Credit Score and More credit report provides all the information you would find on your credit file, including a list of open loans, accounts, and credit inquiries.  You can see details on your payment history, credit utilization, and public records that show up on your account. There is never a negative impact to your credit report or credit score when you access them through Credit Score and More.

Q. What is SavvyMoney?

A.  SavvyMoney is an American corporation based in Pleasanton, CA that pulls your credit profile from TransUnion, one of the three major credit reporting bureaus, and uses VantageScore 3.0, a credit scoring model developed collaboratively by the three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. CU SoCal has partnered with SavvyMoney to bring our Members Credit Score and More at no cost.

Q. How do I contact SavvyMoney if I’m experiencing a problem with Credit Score and More or would like to make a suggestion?

A. On any screen within the Credit Score and More widget, scroll to the bottom and use “Contact Us” to contact SavvyMoney. You can also contact CU SoCal at 866.287.6225, Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. We’ll do our best to solve any challenges you are experiencing.

Q. Is there a fee?

A. No. Credit Score and More is a free service to all Members of CU SoCal.

Q. Will accessing my credit score negatively impact my credit?

A. No. Accessing your credit score is a “soft inquiry,” which does not affect your credit.  Lenders use “hard inquiries” to make decisions about your creditworthiness when you apply for loans, but a consumer checking their own credit report or credit report has no negative affect.

Q. How often is my credit score updated?

A. As long as you regularly log on to Online or Mobile Banking, your credit score will be updated every month and displayed in Online or Mobile Banking. You can click “Refresh Score” as frequently as every day in the Credit Score and More widget in Online and Mobile Banking. Refreshing your score does not negatively affect your credit score or credit health. You can check it every day without worry.

Q. How does the Credit Score and More credit score differ from other credit scores?

A: Credit Score and More pulls your credit profile from TransUnion, one of the three major credit reporting bureaus, and uses VantageScore 3.0, a credit scoring model developed collaboratively by the three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. This model seeks to make score information more uniform between the three bureaus to provide consumers a better picture of their credit health.

Q: Why do credit scores differ?

A: There are three major credit-reporting bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion and two scoring models: FICO or VantageScore—that determine credit scores. More than 200 factors in a credit report may be taken into account when calculating a score, and each scoring model may weigh credit factors differently, so no scoring model is completely identical. No matter what credit bureau or credit scoring model is used, consumers fall into specific credit ranges: Excellent 781–850, Good 661-780, Fair 601-660, Unfavorable 501-600, and Bad 500 or less.

Q: Will CU SoCal use the Credit Score and More credit score to make loan decisions?

A: No, CU SoCal uses its own lending criteria for making loan decisions.

Q: Will Credit Score and More share my credit score with CU SoCal?

A: No, your Credit Score and More credit score will not be shared with CU SoCal. It is a free service to help you understand your credit health, how to improve your score, and gain access to special lending offers from CU SoCal.

Q: How does Credit Score and More keep my financial information secure?

A: Credit Score and More uses bank-level encryption and security measures to keep your data safe and secure. Your personal information is never shared with or sold to a third party.

Q: What if the information provided by Credit Score and More credit report appears to be wrong or inaccurate?

A: The Credit Score and More credit score is not intended to be comprehensive and may not provide all the information about your credit accounts. That’s why we encourage you to take advantage of obtaining free credit reports from www.annualcreditreport.com to look for any incorrect information or discrepancies across all three bureaus. However, you can initiate a dispute of a credit report error by clicking “Start a Dispute” at the bottom of the credit report within the Credit Score and More widget. Even though your dispute is initiated through your TransUnion credit report within Credit Score and More, the dispute will be sent to all three credit bureaus. Bear in mind that each credit bureau has its own process for correcting inaccurate information. For more information about correcting errors on credit reports, visit www.FTC.gov, the Federal Trade Commission website.

Q: There is a section in Credit Score and More that features both CU SoCal loan offers and financial education articles. Why am I seeing this?

A: Based on your Credit Score and More credit score information, you may receive CU SoCal offers on products that may be of interest to you. In most cases, these offers may have lower interest rates than the products you already have. The educational articles, written by Jean Chatzky and the Credit Score and More team, are designed to provide helpful tips on how you can manage credit and debt wisely.

Q: Does Credit Score and More offer credit report monitoring as well?

A. Yes. Credit Score and More will monitor and send email alerts when there’s been a change to your credit profile.

Q. How do I change my email address or other personal information?

A: As long as you have updated your email address in CU SoCal’s Online and Mobile Banking platform, no further action is required. Your email address will be updated automatically in Credit Score and More.

Q. Who is eligible to use Credit Score and More?

A: Credit Score and More is available to most Members registered for digital banking that are 18 and older with a SSN or ITIN. Business, fiduciary, or Members with restricted accounts may not be able to use this service. For questions regarding eligibility please click here
