Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Samsung Pay

Samsung Pay allows you to pay for your purchases with your Samsung Galaxy phone or watch by holding the phone near a contactless reader at participating merchants.
You can add all CU SoCal credit/debit cards to Samsung Pay.
One-time Passcode (OTP) is used to prevent wallet enrollment fraud as well as improve the Member experience while enrolling in Samsung Pay. You will receive a One-Time Passcode via email or text during the enrollment process. If there is an issue during enrollment, you will receive a message to contact the Credit Union to tokenize your card.
Cards can be easily added to Samsung pay by navigating to and opening Samsung Pay on your phone. Tap Menu in the top left corner, and then tap Cards. Next, tap Add card (blue +card icon), and then tap Add credit/debit card. Follow the on-screen instructions to register the card. When the card is added, agree to the card's terms and conditions. Use your phone’s camera to scan in the card’s information, or manually input the card information.

To add a card to a Samsung watch, open the Galaxy Wearable app. From the Home tab, swipe to and tap Samsung Pay. If prompted, sign into the Samsung account. Tap + in the upper right of the screen, and then tap Add credit or debit card. You can take a photo of the card number or manually enter them by tapping Enter card manually. Fill in all required information, and then tap Next. Review the Terms of Service, and then tap Agree to all. Select a method to verify the card, and then tap Submit. Finally, tap Done

  Once the eligible card is registered to Samsung Pay, you can make a payment by:
  • Swiping up from the bottom of your screen just above the Home button, towards the top of the screen
  • When the desired card is selected, place your finger on the Home button, to verify your fingerprint
  • Samsung will indicate that you are ready to make a payment
  • Hold device above the NFC reader on the payment terminal
Samsung Pay transactions are authorized with a PIN, fingerprint, or iris scan. After repeated failure to authenticate, Samsung Pay will erase all card data. Each transaction uses a random token instead of the actual card number, which means no real information from the original card or account is shared by Samsung Pay. Samsung pay uses Samsung KNOX to secure the payment information. Your fingerprint is required to authorize in-store purchases.
Yes. As of version 2.5, you can make in-app purchases with Samsung Pay when supported by the merchant app. If it is supported, you will see a Samsung Pay icon in the merchant app screen at check out. You will need to tap Samsung Pay, and the Samsung Pay app will open for your payment card selection and authorization.
You can add up to 10 cards using Samsung Pay. Both credit cards/debit cards can be added.
There are no restrictions on adding the same payment card to multiple devices. For example, if you share a credit card number, the card can be added to both devices.
If a replacement card is received, the original card should be removed from Samsung Pay and the new card should be added.
If your device is lost or stolen, you can use Samsung’s Find My mobile service to find it. The cards and payment information on Samsung Pay will remain safe and secure, but you will also have the option of disabling cards remotely. Additionally, you can contact the credit union for cards accessed to Samsung Pay and the token can be disabled.
If your card(s) are lost or stolen, you should contact CU SoCal immediately.  We can help replace your lost or stolen card(s) as well as ensure your lost or stolen card(s) in Samsung Pay is replaced so that no more purchases can be made. You should also remove the lost or stolen card(s) from your devices.

Samsung Pay comes preloaded on available phones, you can reinstall the app if needed. Once it is installed, open Samsung Pay, and then tap Get started. Enter a new PIN for Samsung Pay, and then enter it again to confirm. If it is your first time using Samsung Pay, you will be asked to add payment cards. Add cards or tap Samsung Pay Home to skip this step for now. If using Samsung Pay on a watch, you will need to be set it up separately

An active Internet connection is not required to make in-store purchases, but the phone should connect to the Internet at least once per day to ensure that Samsung Pay stays up to date and remains active. There is a limit of 10 authentications/transactions during a period without Internet access, after which the phone will need an Internet connection before additional authentications will process. Samsung Pay does require an active Internet connection to install the app or add a new card.
Yes. When you make purchases with Google Pay, using your CU SoCal Visa debit card, CU SoCal Classic, or Platinum credit card. You will continue to earn Dream Points for transaction(s).
Samsung Pay works virtually anywhere you can swipe or tap your card. Samsung Pay is the only mobile payment service that works at the majority of U.S. retail locations.
No. CU SoCal does not charge a fee to use Samsung Pay.
