Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Google Pay

Google Pay allows you to pay for your purchases with your Android phone by holding the phone near a contactless reader at participating merchants.
You can add all CU SoCal Visa credit/debit cards to Google Pay.
One-time Passcode (OTP) is used to prevent wallet enrollment fraud as well as improve the Member experience while enrolling in Google Pay. You will receive a One-Time Passcode via email or text during the enrollment process. If there is an issue during enrollment, you will receive a message to contact the Credit Union to tokenize your card.
Google Pay comes preloaded on several devices. If your phone does not have the app, you can download it from Google Play. If your card(s) are already in your Google Pay account, you can login and add the payment method.

You can pay for purchases with Google Pay in stores where you see contactless terminals with any one of these logos:

  • You will need to unlock the device (no need to open the app)

  • Hold back the device near a contactless payment terminal

  • The device will beep or vibrate, and you will receive an on-screen confirmation letting you know the payment was made

Google protects payment information with multiple layers of security, using one of the world’s most advanced security infrastructures to help keep accounts safe. When you pay in stores, Google Pay does not share your card number, so your information stays secure.
Yes, You can use Google Pay to pay for things in apps. You can use Google Pay in apps with either of these purchase buttons:



At checkout, you will touch the Google Pay purchase button. You may also be prompted to select a payment method and enter your shipping address before confirming your order.
There is no limit to the number of cards you can add to Google Pay on the same Android device.
You can usually add the same card number up to 9 to 10 devices.
If a replacement card is received, the original card should be removed from Google Pay and the new card should be added.
If your card(s) are lost or stolen, you should contact CU SoCal immediately.  We can help replace your lost or stolen card(s) as well as ensure your lost or stolen card(s) in Google Pay is replaced so that no more purchases can be made. You should also remove the lost or stolen card(s) from your devices.

Google provides a service called Android Device Manager that allows you to find, locate and erase your device if it is lost or stolen. Additionally, you can contact the credit union for cards accessed to Google Pay and the token can be disabled.

Google Pay requires an active Internet connection when making a purchase. It also requires an active Internet
connection when adding or removing a payment card and to download transaction history. You can connect via Wi-Fi network or using your mobile data connection
Yes. When you make purchases with Google Pay, using your CU SoCal Visa debit card, CU SoCal Classic, or Platinum credit card. You will continue to earn Dream Points for transaction(s).

No. CU SoCal does not charge a fee to use Google Pay.
